British Export rocks Beatles fans in Seattle

February 17, 3:39 PM John Lennon Examiner Shelley Germeaux

Beatles tribute band British Export rocked enthusiastic fans at the Tulalip Casino for their debut performance in the Seattle area, on Valentines Day.

All eras were included in their show with full costuming: Ed Sullivan, Shea Stadium, Sgt. Pepper, and Abbey Road. Starting out the Ed Sullivan era with All My Loving, and She Loves You, people instantly filled the dance floor, dancing like “the good old days” with all those great ‘60s dance moves. Jim "Ringo" Martin did a perfect Ringo imitation with Matchbox. The end of this 15-song set was a rocking Can’t Buy Me Love.

The 14-song Shea Stadium set included hits like Help, Michelle, Act Naturally, In My Life, Kansas City and Twist and Shout. The Sgt Pepper set opened with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band of course, followed by With a Little Help From My Friends, Penny Lane, I am the Walrus, while the final set, the Abbey Road era, treated the audience to Come Together, Hey Jude, Revolution and many others. Each song gave a flawless rendition of "the real thing."

British Export is the first look alike, dress alike, sound alike Beatles cover band to form in Seattle. They have played all over the world, including in Liverpool at Beatles Week, where they performed a classic show in the Cavern Club where the Beatles played. The band uses authentic suits for each era, as well as original era instruments in order to reproduce an accurate sound. “Paul” is even left handed.

Originally of Chicago, Ill, local auditions are being conducted to form the new Seattle band. Jim "Ringo" Martin, front man for the group, flew in former band mates Robert Graham, (John Lennon), Jon Perry (Paul McCartney), and Jimmy Pou (George Harrison) for the debut event.

Martin, who is the spitting image of the real Ringo, was interviewed on KZOK’s Bob Rivers Show in Seattle early Friday morning. Jim’s authentic Ringo accent and knowledge of Ringo's history amazed everyone on the show, and Bob said afterwards, “I forgot I wasn’t talking to the real Ringo!” Rivers attended the show Sunday night and addressed the audience with his praise for the group.

The show had been widely publicized and the venue was filled to capacity with a line still outside the door during the show. British Export succeeded in making a first great impression on Seattle’s fans and is sure to be a fantastic success here. British Export's website is www.britishexport.com

Congratulations to British Export for the successful Seattle invasion!
